Mahabubnagar: Braving the scorching sun, A.P. Jithender Reddy, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti’s Mahabubnagar Lok Sabha nominee meets bystanders in Narayanpet, famous for its saris, and explains why the TRS must form the first government in Telangana.

“We have a big task ahead. To implement the TRS manifesto in letter and spirit, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao should form the government. It’s a must to fulfil your dreams. Ensure you vote for the car symbol in the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls,” he urges listeners with folded hands.

With just four days left for campaigning to end in Telangana, the key contenders, Mr Jithender Reddy, S. Jaipal Reddy of the Congress and Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy of the TDP-BJP combine have intensified their election campaigns in one of the most problematic and backward districts of Telangana.

As you follow Mr Jithender Reddy’s election campaign in towns and villages across the constituency, from dawn to dusk, the problems suffered by the district become evident, most notably lack of irrigation, power shortage, massive migration of labour, lack of employment opportunities as educated youth look to Hyderabad for jobs.
Wearing a pink party khandwa around his neck, Mr Reddy emphasises to the people, on the roadside in Narayanpet, that the detailed manifesto of the TRS can be implemented only if the party comes to power. “It will change the face of Telangana for good,” he says.

Mr Reddy is furious at Narendra Modi’s comment made during this week’s rally in Hyderabad that the Congress gave birth to Telangana but killed the mother leaving Telangana and Seemandhra orphans.

“What is Modi talking about? Who is mother? Whose mother is killed? Who is orphan? Telangana is not an orphan. It is under the care of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao. KCR will become CM and will develop Telangana,” an indignant Mr Reddy told this correspondent.

He is surprised that Mr Modi, the BJP’s prime ministerial nominee, ignored the suicides by 1100 youth for Telangana, the pain undergone by the kin of martyrs and the long struggle by the TRS and other T-organisations in achieving Telangana.

“Modi is taking Andhra’s side and reading the script prepared by Chandrababu Naidu and other Andhra leaders. His comment hurt Telangana people. People should discard such leaders and parties,” he fumed.

Mr Reddy, who is involved in a triangular contest with two other Reddys took a swipe at the BJP nominee for abusing Mr Naidu when he left the party and now sharing a dais with him.

He doesn’t spare veteran Congress leader Mr Jaipal Reddy either. “It is a shame on the part of Mr Jaipal Reddy to publish a book hailing his achievements. He calls himself the best parliamentarian, but banks on a young boy like Rahul Gandhi in the elections and to certify his character,” he mocked.

On opponents calling the TRS an ochillara dukanamu (general stores), he replied smartly that people at the grassroots level depend on stores and not on malls and MNCs.
