Lucknow: Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt said BJP's prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi should be defeated as he was a 'communal' leader.

Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Bhatt said, "I don't want to see Narendra Modi as PM, he does not deserve to be the prime minister."

Bhatt was in the city to campaign for Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

"Its our duty to defeat communal forces. Our country is secular and it our duty to maintain this character," he told the media.

"My son had talked to Richard Headley accused in Mumbai blasts. Though he was not named by any agency, in Gujarat his film was not allowed to be screened. A person who has such type of thinking should not be allowed to win," Bhatt added.

Rita Bahuguna Joshi is contesting the Lok Sabha election from Lucknow against BJP president Rajnath Singh.
