I have come to terms with the exposure: Deepika Padukone
No actor can work round the clock and do every film that is offered to them
She has shown the world how to turn the tide in her favour. From being dismissed as a non-actor in her initial days in the Hindi film industry, to scoring one hit after another in the span of a year, Deepika has made her detractors eat their words and how. Her good spell started off with Cocktail. She followed it up with Race 2, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Chennai Express and Ram-Leela.
Besides her films, the superstar continues to make headlines with talks of her relationship with her Ram-Leela co-star Ranveer Singh. Deepika has tried hard to maintain a low profile about but all in vain. In a mildly exasperated tone she says, “Honestly I’ve come to terms with the exposure. Yes, I’m an actor and I’d rather people talk about my work. Having said that, I know I can’t escape being written about my personal equations. It doesn’t bother me anymore. I don’t feel the need to defend myself or the person involved in the stories that are being circulated,” says Deepika.
Two of the industry’s top-notch filmmakers, Karan Johar and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, wanted to cast Deepika in their films Shuddhi and Bajirao Mastani respectively. The buzz is that she chose the latter over Karan’s film. Considering both the filmmakers share a good equation with her, did the decision ruffle feathers? “I do films that are offered to me.
I don’t have any ego issues about who was offered what film. What matters to me is what I’m doing. Honestly, right now I can confirm that I’m starting work on Imtiaz Ali’s next film in two months. But as of now, it’s too early to talk about Bajirao Mastani. There are just 365 days in a year. No actor can work round the clock and do every film that is offered to them. I think the best people to answer the question about me doing or not doing their film are the directors themselves. I’ll leave that to them,” says a pragmatic Deepika. The actress clearly wants to avoid talking about her exit from Shuddhi followed by her subsequent entry in Bajirao Mastani and the stress it caused between the filmmakers, reportedly.
There were also talks about her hunting for a new house to move in. Rumour mills were abuzz about her having invested a whopping '50 crore in a bungalow in Juhu. “I find it very bizarre when I hear such stories. I’m happy with my current house. I don’t feel the need to move out yet,” she clarifies. Despite her glamorous profession and high profile lifestyle Deepika Padukone’s father, renowned badminton player Prakash Padukone, and family have kept away from the spotlight. “There is no conscious effort from me or my family keep a low profile. My father is one of the best sportsmen the country has ever had. My sister and mother live the way they want to. They aren’t making a conscious move to stay away from the media glare.”
