Honeymoon remark: Ramdev's public meetings banned in Lucknow till May 16
Ramdev had said that Rahul Gandhi visits the houses of Dalits for ‘honeymoon, picnics'
Lucknow: The administration in Lucknow has banned all public meetings by yoga guru Baba Ramdev, who is in the middle of a controversy for passing derogatory remarks on Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.
In a shocking statement, Ramdev had said that Rahul Gandhi visits the houses of Dalits for "honeymoon and picnic". The 43-year-old later apologized for the comments, saying his comments were “misinterpreted”.
Taking strong objection to such statements, the Election Commission has come out with fresh guidelines against making "malicious" statements about the private life of individuals.
The EC has also cautioned that religion should not be invoked as it may create disharmony among people. The chief electoral officers in states have been directed that those who violate the latest guidelines "should not be allowed" to hold programmes during the period of elections. The EC directives referred to complaints being received that certain organisations were using their programmes for electioneering.
