Slight rise in Tamil Nadu poll percentage
Figure is marginally higher by 0.69 per cent from 2009
Chennai: The State Election Commission has put the final polling percentage for the April 24 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu, in which 5.5 crore electorate cast their votes in 39 constituencies, at 73.67 per cent. The figure is marginally higher by 0.69 per cent than the 72,98 per cent registered in 2009 polls.
More women had turned up for voting during this election across the state with their percentage standing at 73.85 higher than men by 0.36 per cent.
Speaking to reporters, chief electoral officer Praveen Kumar said that Dharmapuri, one of the most backward constituencies in the state, had the highest poll percentage 81.07 per cent with Karur (80.55 per cent), Perambalur (80.02 per cent) and Arani (80per cent) closely following the trend of registering over 80 per cent polling. “South Chennai constituency which is one of the most posh parts of the state recorded the lowest voter turn out at 60.4 per cent,” CEO Praveen Kumar said.
