Suspended cop abducts 2 colleagues
Later, released them in a village 5 km away before fleeing the area
Raipur: A police officer, placed under suspension recently, had taken a search party by surprise, which had gone to nab him in his village in Chhattisgarh’s Korba district, when he abducted two members of the team to evade arrest, police said on Sunday.
Mahendra Singh Kanwar, posted as deputy superintendent of police in Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh, had been staying with his father at Rampur in Korba district to avoid attention of police ever since he was suspended a few days ago.
Mahendra, son of local Congress MLA Shyamlal Kanwar, was allegedly involved in the clash between BJP and Congress workers at Baghapani village in Korba district on the eve of the final phase elections in Chhattisgarh on April 23.
Getting a tip off on his presence in his native village of Rampur, a police team led by Korba district superintendent of police Kirtan Rathore rushed to the area to nab him.
Spotting him seated in an SUV, the team tried to overpower him. He however gave a slip to the police by speeding his vehicle away along with two constables.
Later, he released the cops in a village 5 km away before fleeing the area.
“We have registered a case against under various sections of IPC for assaulting and kidnapping public servants,” Mr Rathore said.
