GUNTUR: Union minister and PCC election campaign committee chairman K Chiranjeevi on Sunday said that the Congress had divided the state after taking letters of consent from the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress. He also reminded that the BJP had passed a resolution in favour of the  new state 18 years ago. Mr Chiranjeevi was addressing roadshows at Kolakalur, Nandivelugu and Attota villages under Tenali Assembly segments on Sunday.

He assured that the Congress will construct a capital for the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh with the necessary infrastructure, if the party comes to power. He also added that the opposition parties were blaming the Congress for the division of the state only to gain political mileage in the state.

The actor-turned-politician reiterated that the Congress was committed to the welfare of the poor and had, hence, implemented various schemes for the welfare of the underprivileged like the Re 1/kg rice scheme, Rajiv Arogyasri, Indiramma Housing scheme, interest-free loans to self-help groups, and various other schemes for women.

Mr Chiranjeevi came down heavily on Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu for trying to cheat the farmers. He said that the TD chief had done nothing for the farmers in the nine-and-a-half years of his rule and is promising to waive the crop loans to simply gain political mileage in the elections.

He urged the voters to elect Congress candidate for Guntur Lok Sabha seat, Abdul Waheed, and Congress candidate for Tenali Assembly segment N Manohars in the coming elections.
