Osmania University students take out rally against KCR
Students were angered by his recent statements, promising regularisation of contract employees
Hyderabad: Mild tension gripped the Osmania University campus on Sunday, when scores of students took out a rally against TRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao while he was campaigning. They protested his statement on regularising contract workers on coming to power. The situation came under control after his meeting with student representatives.
Mr Rao, who was campaigning at various places in the city, reached the campus in the evening. His convoy was stopped at the ‘A’ ground by around 200 students. They raised slogans against him like ‘go back KCR’ and ‘down down KCR.’ The students were angered by his recent statements, promising regularisation of contract employees, once the TRS is voted to power. They questioned about their future and scope for employment later.
Though Mr Rao met with student leaders, they were unsatisfied by his claims. “Some of our leaders met him and explained our problems. He responded by promising 20 per cent, which is not acceptable,” said S. Gangadhar, a member from the OU student JAC. “The student leaders held a meet with KCR, following which the situation came under control. The students then gave way and the convoy left. There was no violence, complaints and arrests.” said A.V.R. Narsimha Rao, inspector, OU police station.
