Nizamabad: Both TRS candidate K. Kavita and Congress candidate Madhuyakshi Goud are hoping to ride on the Telangana wave and claim their party brought about the formation of the new state.

With all parties, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti, the Congress, the TD-BJP combine, the Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and the Aam Aadmi in the fray, their candidates are resorting to various populist gimmicks to attract voters, like rolling bidis alongside bidi workers, making tea along with tea-stall owners and the like.

There are some big promises too. Ms K. Kavita of the TRS has promised nine hours of electricity for farmers, which will mean importing Rs 5000-cr worth of power each year for two years. After that she promises 24-hours of power.

The Congress’ Madhu Yakshi Goud has been less specific, promising roads and job to bidi workers. Despite the promises offered by parties, when it comes to Assembly candidates voters are looking at individual candidates rather than parties.

“When it comes to voting for MPs, it’s decided on the basis of party policy but for MLAs it is on  individuals,” said Ms Kavitha adding that  However now there is no  nobody knows the ground situation better than the Mr Madhu Yakshi Goud says the TRS is banking completely on an unseen wave. “The fact that they had  planned only one visit but have scaled up to four shows that they are jittery. We are getting positive response from every place,” the Congress nominee told this newspaper.
