Hyderabad: Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan has given the Anti-Corruption Bureau permission to prosecute corrupt bureaucrats named as accused in the liquor scam cases.

The 34 accused include officials from the excise and prohibition and revenue departments who accepted bribes from the liquor syndicates. Chargesheets were filed in the ACB court against many of the accused.

Cases have been registered against more than 180 officials, and the ACB is awaiting sanction for prosecution.

A senior ACB official said, “We have come to know that the government has sanctioned prosecution of the officials based on our request for reconsideration. Earlier, the government had denied this permission. Many of our requests are being considered by the state government now.”

The AP High Court had directed the ACB in February this year to investigate the role of politicians, public representatives and officers in the liquor syndicate scam and submit a report within three months.
