Hyderabad: Rajamouli’s magnum opus Bahubali is perhaps the most talked about film in Tollywood in recent times. While the audiences are eagerly waiting for the Prabhas and Rana Daggubati-starrer, the first part of which will be released next year, it now seems that the film’s storyline is not original after all.

According to sources, Bahubali is loosely based on the yesteryear film Marmayogi, which had released in Telugu and in Tamil with superstars NTR and MGR playing the leads in the respective languages.
Marmayogi’s story goes like this: A king’s (Serukalathur Sama) mistress (Anjali Devi) usurps him casts him adrift in a river. The two princes of the kingdom (Sahasra-namam and MGR in the Tamil version) are denied their birthright. The deposed king wanders the country in the guise of a sage. The young prince (MGR) leads a popular rebellion against the queen and restores the kingdom to his father.

In the film, the two brothers do not know that they are siblings and the truth comes out only in the end. According to sources, Rana and Prabhas are playing the two brothers.
