AAP moves to revamp party, Sarah Joseph to play top role

Thiruvananthapuram: The AAP has decided to strengthen its organisational base from the grassroots level and bring in prominent faces like writer Sarah Joseph to the top echelons of the party.

The AAP state executive, which met in Kochi on Sunday, took stock of the Lok Sabha polls in which the party contested 15 constituencies, and devised  a strategy to strengthen the party.  AAP state coordinator Manoj Padmanabhan said the meeting decided to constitute committees from branch level to the state.

“We will have a bottom- top approach and hence we are planning to strengthen the units at the local level. But we are also planning to have a full-fledge organisational structure at the state, district and mandalam levels,’’ he added.

Mr Padmanabhan said prominent leaders, including Sarah Teacher, would take  up important responsibilities in the organisation. The party decided to come down heavily on those violating party discipline, be it posting matters on the website without the permission of the party and airing internal matters of the party in public.  

“There will be zero tolerance towards indiscipline,’’ he said and added  that the party workers and leaders had full freedom to air their views and grievances within the party fora. The AAP also decided to constitute a committee which will prepare a detailed plan regarding the issues to be taken up at the state, district and local levels to mobilise the people. The main thrust would be on issues affecting the common man, waste management, environment, transportation, drinking water, health, employment, women and child protection and abkari policy besides general problems like price rise.
