New Delhi: Narendra Modi was given the sobriquet of 'spinmaster' by Congress which accused the BJP's prime minister candidate of deliberately misinterpreting facts after he lashed out at Priyanka Gandhi for "insulting" him with the "neech rajniti" remark as he belonged to a backward caste.

"He knows that he is misinterpreting. He does it purposefully. That is Narendra Modi. He will give it a spin that has nothing to do with fact," party spokesman and Union minister Kapil Sibal told reporters here. Asserting that Gandhi never made any such insinuation, Sibal said that Priyanka was only referring to BJP resorting to "low-level" politics.

Former Punjab chief minister and senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh attacked BJP leader Arun Jaitley for accusing Priyanka Gandhi of being arrogant. "Jaitley should better introspect about his own attitude that smacks of high headedness and sheer arrogance than passing judgement on others," he said.

Singh said he had known both Rahul and Priyanka since their childhood and both of them are known for their "friendliness and highly affable manners.

"He (Jaitley) will lose from Amritsar because of his arrogance and egoistic attitude as he is yet to learn to treat party colleagues as equals and not as subordinates," said Singh, who has been locked in a bitter tussle with the BJP leader for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat.

"What is our(backward communities) crime? How dare they termed us as lowly and insult us," Modi shot back while addressing a rally today in UP's Domariyaganj. "If telling truth is a crime, I am ready to face the consequences...I don't know what kind of mental state they are living in even after 60 years of independence. I pray they get sanity," he said.
