Hyderabad: A minor blast occurred on a street in Bhavaninagar in the old city on Tuesday midnight, slightly injuring a local vendor who was sleeping on a push-cart.

The police suspects that the bomb was a ‘throw down’ type containing crude explosive materials. It was a handmade bomb with the explosive and some sharp nails wrapped in paper and sealed with duct tape.

Cops are yet to ascertain who the intended target was. They also do not know where the bomb was made and by whom.

The bomb went off on the road close to Talabkatta. “The bomb went off near where two elderly people were sitting and a man was sleeping on his cart.

“Witnesses said they did not see anybody there on the road. We are yet to confirm how the explosive reached this place,” said Special Investigation Team chief and additional commissioner, crime, Sandeep Shandilya.

The police is also baffled about what triggered the blast. “Either somebody had thrown it and it exploded due to the pressure, or somebody lit it and triggered the blast,” said Mr Shandilya.

“We have sought the help of the AP Forensic Science Laboratory and have sent them samples. Once the report comes, we can confirm details of the explosives,” said the additional commissioner.

The injured vendor, Mohammed Salman, said that he was fast asleep when the blast occurred.

“I woke up hearing the sudden sound and saw the thick smoke. Later, I realised that my hand was aching and I found minor injuries,” he said.

The city police has booked a case under the Explosive Substances Act.
