Home ministry unlikely to change Telangana appointed day
TRS is seeking a change in the Telangana appointed day set by the ministry
New Delhi: The Centre has decided to review the situation in Andhra Pradesh with less than a month left for the Telangana formation day.
A home ministry team led by Union Home secretary Anil Goswami is planning to visit the state on May 12 to meet the top state brass to review the progress made in terms of bifurcation of assets and resources and the prevailing security scenario. Home ministry officials said that June 2 will remain as the formation date for the new state. The MHA is unlikely to change its stance on the issue.
Meanwhile, the expert committee that was set up by the Centre to decide on the new capital for residuary Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation of the state, is also slated to visit the state on May 9.
The committee will study various alternatives for locating the new capital of the residuary state and make appropriate recommendations in pursuant to section 6 of Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014 .
MHA sources said so far no decision has been taken on the new capital and it may take some more months before the committee arrives at a conclusion.
"There is still time and by the end of the year the committee is expected to submit its report," a source said. The committee , chaired by retired IAS officer KC Siva Ramakrishnana, has been given time uptil August 31 to submit its report.
In March, the UPA government had issued a formal notification announcing June 2 as the "appointed date" when the states of Telangana and residuary Andhra Pradesh formally come into existence, splitting the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh.
