Jayalalithaa dedicates historic victory to people of Tamil Nadu

Chennai: Chief minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa hailed the Supreme Court verdict permitting Tamil Nadu to raise the storage level in the Mullaiperiyar dam from to 142 feet from 136 ft and said she was dedicating this “historic victory” to the people of the state.
The chief minister who has been striving to protect the state’s rights and had even initiated a case in the Supreme Court in 2006, said in a statement here, that the apex court verdict, allowing Tamil Nadu to raise the storage level and striking down the law enacted by the Kerala Government in 2006 restricting the storage level to 136 ft, gave her immense happiness as it sustained the livelihood of the farmers in the southern districts and the people of the state.
She said she had been tasting victory in all her endeavours, be it in getting the final award in the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal notified in the government gazette or in preventing the sale of Public Sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation to private parties.
