Telangana Rashtriya Samiti leaders seek May 17 for division
TRS cites the reason of gap of 17 days between poll results and appointed day
Hyderabad: The TRS took the issue of bringing forward the Appointed Day for formation of Telangana to Union home secretary, Mr Anil Goswami, in New Delhi on Wednesday.
A three-member TRS delegation comprising party general secretary, Dr K. Kesava Rao and politburo members, Mr B. Vinod Kumar and Mr G. Jagdish Reddy, met Mr Goswami and requested the Central government to bring forward the Appointed Day that has been fixed for June 2.
The delegation handed over a copy of the High Court ruling on the issue and requested Mr Goswami to initiate steps to bring the Appointed Day forward to either May 17 or 18 since the election results would be out on May 16.
TRS cited “political vacuum and political problems” during the 17 day gap between poll results on May 16 and the Appointed Day fixed on June 2.

“The Union home secretary, Mr Anil Goswami was positive about our request. He promised to refer the matter to the Law department in this regard. We informed that new governments should be formed in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh along the lines of others across the country immediately after election results were announced,” Dr Kesava Rao told Deccan Chronicle over phone from New Delhi after the meeting.
Dr Kesava Rao said while there could be a delay in formation of the new government at the Centre by two or three days, states formed governments immediately after the results were announced.
“There will be a gap of 17 days after poll results. Such a political vacuum should not be there. The Appointed Day was fixed when the Kiran Kumar Reddy government was there. But there has been a lot of developments since then. Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy quit as CM, President's Rule was imposed and the state bifurcated. We hope the Centre will take a positive decision and bring forward the Appointed Day, which is not an issue,” he added.
