Mystic Mantra: Reciprocate mother’s love
“God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.”
The bond between a mother and a child is sacred and full of unconditional love. We see how an infant can go on pulling his/her mother’s hair or slapping her, yet anger never touches the mother’s heart. Even if the child comes to her besmeared with filth and grime, she hugs the child tightly. A mother’s love for the child is pure and goes from heart to heart. Greed does not enter this relationship. A mother sacrifices everything for her child.
There is no end to the sacrifices a mother makes for her child. In this pure relationship, the mother loses all attachment to everything in life except the love of her child. She also loses her ego in this relationship.
We know how tender and warm our mother’s love is. As children, we must recognise what our mothers do for us and how much they sacrifice for our comfort. As we grow up, we must make sure that we pay back what we owe to our mothers.
In this tech-driven age where time is money, we often tend to look for materialistic things. While cards, flowers, gifts and probably a meal out seem to be the perfect plan for this Mother’s Day on May 11, but what our mothers — Mummy, Maa, Aai, Bebe, Ammi — really want is our time. They want us to sit with them and just listen to what they have to say.
As students, doctors, engineers we tend to get busy with our lives and often forget being respectful and loving towards our mothers. We must make sure that we acknowledge their investment — love and sacrifice — in our lives and reciprocate the same.
It is also said that God’s love for his disciples is more than that of a hundred thousand parents’ love for their children. The Almighty God has great abundance of love for all. He does not expect anything from us and only gives, always encouraging us to go within and connect with Him. Rudyard Kipling also said, “God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.”
The deeper meaning of Mother’s Day is not only to honour and respect our mothers for giving us life physically, but also to honour our true parent — God — who gave us life at all levels: physically, intellectually and spiritually. When we remember our mothers, we should also remember God for creating us. As we celebrate Mother’s Day, we must commit ourselves to reciprocate our mother’s love not only on the occasion of mother’s day but every day.
As parents most of us would know the pain we undergo when our children are not grateful for all the love and sacrifice we made for them. We also know the joy we feel when they recognise our love and grow up to become responsible citizens. In the same way, we can think of the difference between those who remember God with gratitude and those who are either ungrateful or do not even acknowledge the existence of God. The best way to convey thanks for innumerable blessings and unending love is to lead an ethical and loving life.
