Violence in Kadapa, police set up pickets
Violent clash erupted between TDP and YSRC candidates on poll day
Kadapa: Tense situation prevailed in many parts of Kadapa district on Thursday after violence erupted between the YSR Congress and Telugu Desam activists.
Additional security forces and police pickets have been posted in all sensitive, faction-hit villages in the district after the violence on Wednesday, the day of polling.
Two groups clashed at Kannelur in Jammalamadugu Assembly constituency on Thursday pelting stones at each other.
Sources said that YSRC leader Venkata Reddy and his supporters were attacked by the TD activists at Kannelur in Jammalamadugu in which three persons suffered serious injuries. TD candidate Ramasubba Reddy and YSRC MLC C. Narayana Reddy rushed to the spot. A group of YSRC activists blocked TD candidate Ramasubba Reddy when he reached the area.
Sensing the situation, a large number of policemen have been posted at Kannelur to stop any untoward incidents. Police dispersed the groups and a picket has been posted at Kannelur.
Similarly, the YSRC and TD activists clashed at Khajipeta in Mydukur Assembly constituency on Thursday too. Sources said, both the groups gathered on the NH and pelted stones at each other. Mydukur DSP Sreedhar Babu rushed to the spot and dispersed the groups.
Sources said the situation is still tense at Badvel, Pulivendula, Railway Kodur and other sensitive parts of the district. SP G.V.G. Ashok Kumar said additional forces have been posted at all sensitive locations to avoid untoward incidents. Police pickets would continue till completion of the counting process.
In Anantapur, a police picket was posted on Thursday at Chennampalli village in B.K. Samudram mandal where 14 persons of both the YSRC and the TD suffered serious injuries in a poll clash.
