New Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed Thursday a petition seeking stalling of the commissioning of the Koodankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu on the ground that more safety measures are needed to ensure that no nuclear accidents take place in the future.
The top court said it was satisfied with the measures pertaining to safety taken by the government and also dismissed the plea that a committee be appointed to supervise safety measures at the controversial plant. A bench headed by Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan expressed satisfaction on the steps taken by Centre and Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) to put in place safety measures for the nuclear plant.
