Hyderabad: Officials acted fast and decided to repair a portion of the Necklace Road, right in front of the railway station, that had collapsed forming a deep crater earlier in the day on Friday.

The road belongs to HMDA. It gave the contract to Ayyappa Infra Projects Private Limited. Within hours of our photographer taking pictures of the damaged road, workers repaired the road partially.

Multiple underground work carried out by different government departments had led to the road getting damaged. Hundreds of curious motorists and visitors to the Sanjeevaiah Park gathered around the deep crater to take a closer look.

HMDA owns and maintains the 4.5 km Necklace Road. Four months back, the civic body had granted permission to the AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited and AP Transmission Corpo-ration for underground cabling work in the stretch.

Simultaneously the Buddha Purnima Project, environmental wing of HMDA, is also carrying out underground work to install pipelines for recycling water and diversion of sewage flow from the lake.

APCPDCL’s work is still in progress, while APTransco’s work is nearing completion. The pipeline works of HMDA are being carried out. The carriage way on one side is being used for the underground work.

“The sudden downpour has caused the damage, and the concerned contractor has been informed and on Saturday the damage will be rectified.” said an HMDA engineer.
