Mumbai: Stefan Kendal Gordy or Redfoo as his fans know him, wants to make the world one big party heaven. Dedicated to the cause of revelry (yes, he makes you believe it’s a ‘cause’) the DJ and one half of musical duo LMFAO is warming up to give his Mumbai fans the “one helluva party”. “I live to party. I can’t think of a day without going to the club and wiggling my butt. Also I never want my fans to hit the back-to-work syndrome after a good long vacation,” he says as a matter of fact. The tour is being presented by the property United V Dance.

The duo is best known for its hit songs Party Rock Anthem, Sexy and I Know It, Shots and Sorry for Party Rocking.  The first one became the most successful song of their career hitting the number one slot on music charts in over 10 countries and being described as “one of 14 virtually interchangeable odes to night life” by the US newspapers.

The journey towards this world of music started in 2007, on the beaches of Miami informs Redfoo. “Sky (nephew and one half of LMFAO) and I went to Miami in 2007. We’d never seen such parties before! So many people getting along, having a drink, dancing to house music in the summer time — it was one of the best experiences of our lives. Good music, celebration — we decided we needed to be kings of it.”

Apart from their high-energy vocals and sounds, LMFAO is also known for its eclectic sense of dressing and over-the-top music videos, characterised by loud colours, rigorous moves and crazy props. Is that an extension of the people they are? “Being a visual artist, it is very important for me to make my videos look as much fun as possible. I really enjoy being physical in front of the camera, and having fun.”

Though Redfoo and Sky Blu have made their mark as a duo, the two are currently pursuing their individual careers as solo artists. Creative differences? “Sky and I have very strong personalities so we wanted to go in slightly different directions. After the first album we were experimenting with a lot of stuff because we have Rock and 80s Pop in our blood. But with LMFAO, people are expecting electro-pop and dance stuff. So instead of changing LMFAO and putting out a rock album or a hip-hop album, we felt that by splitting up, we could experiment with different sounds on our own and come back together later, strong than ever.”

Redfoo traces his musical interests to his primary school days, since he was friends with William Adams or Will.I.am as he is known to the world. Talking about his famous rapper friend he says, “He’s amazing! I actually grew up with him — I’ve known him  from the 7th grade till the time he first hit the studios. He works so fast and off-the-cuff. He’s so musical.”

Being his maiden India tour, we ask him if there’s an itinerary he has in mind. “India is on a musical high these days and we have a huge fan base here. I’m looking forward to not just performing in India but also exploring the country. I’m fascinated by Bollywood — the item songs, the vibrant culture and the beautiful women. In fact I’m a huge fan of Deepika Padukone, Manjeet Ral from Bhangra band RDB and Salman Khan. I’d like to party rock with them when I’m in India. I’m definitely hitting the streets for some local cuisine and clothing.”

The DJ-rapper believes his songs carry a message for the youth — “I am talking about being unique, creative and having fun along with being ridiculous as the same time,” he signs off.
