Over 200 stocks hit 52-week high on BSE
Stock markets continued to record sharp gains for the third straight session
Mumbai: With the stock markets continuing to record sharp gains for the third straight session, as many as 225 stocks touched their 52-week high on the BSE.
Among major companies who scaled their one-year peak were ACC, BHEL, BPCL, Coal India, HDFC Bank, HPCL, ICICI Bank, L&T, NMDC, Tata Motors and Tata Steel. The Sensex ended the day at a new high of 23,871.23, a sharp gain of 320.23 points, or 1.36 per cent. The 50-share NSE Nifty also settled at a new closing high of 7,108.75, a rise of 94.50 or 1.35 per cent.
Extending gaining streak for third straight session, investors were seen rejoicing today in response to exit polls numbers which shows that the BJP led NDA is set to cross the magic figure of 272 in the just-concluded elections.
“Sentiments also remained up-beat on report that FIIs are continuously investing in our markets, adding to the positivity," said Jayant Manglik, President Retail Distribution, Religare Securities Limited. From the 30-Sensex constituents, 24 ended the day in green, led by BHEL that surged over 10 per cent. Among the 12 BSE sectoral indices, 11 settled the day with gains led by bankex index. As many as 1,660 stocks advanced on the BSE, while 1,355 scrips declined and 163 remained unchanged.
