Meerut still tense, FIRs lodged against 200
Schools and colleges closed till May 14
Lucknow: FIRs have been lodged against more than 200 persons in connection with the communal clashes in Meerut on Friday even as tension continues to prevail in the district.
The district authorities ordered closure of all schools and colleges on Monday and district magistrate Navdeep Rinwa said that the schools and colleges will remain closed till May 14.
Security was intensified in areas where an uneasy calm prevails following Friday’s clash between two communities over the construction of a water kiosk near a mosque in Teergaran area.
Members of a community opposed the installation of the kiosk, saying it was near their temple too and the queue of people would disturb the peace of the premises.
But people from the other community did not agree and installed the water kiosk there, following which a scuffle took place between the two groups. The scuffle blew out of proportion and led to slogan-shouting.
