Hyderabad: Union home secretary Anil Goswami arrived in Hyderabad on Monday to personally monitor the progress of bifurcation-related works. This is his second visit to the state after the Telangana Bill was approved in Parliament in February.

On Monday, he held meetings with Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, chief secretary P.K. Mohanty, DGP B. Prasada Rao and officials of the 22 bifurcation committees, to assess the situation.

Mr Goswami will visit the old Assembly building and Jubilee Hall on Tuesday, which have been allotted to the AP Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council, to monitor the arrangements.

He asked officials to ensure that the entire bifurcation works were completed by May 25 and begin “trial-run administrations” of both AP and Telangana-states from May 26 for a week till June 2, the official date for bifurcation.

He also visited the Lake View Guest House, designated as the AP CM’s camp office, and inspected the arrangements being made there.
Mr Goswami said that the modalities for distribution of employees would be issued within a week and efforts were on to complete the process by May 25. He added that the modalities would be finalised based on the report to be submitted by the Kamalanathan Com-mittee, to suggest ways for division of employees.

Telangana employees’ associations have demanded that division of staff should be based on their “nativity” and “options” should not be given to Seemandhra employees to continue in Telangana region.

Seemandhra employees want the government to give options to choose the state of their choice post bifurcation and their children should be given “local status” in Seemandhra.
