Hyderabad: The municipal poll results in Seemandhra have come as a big shocker for the YSR Congress as the urban voter rejected it. The party suffered huge losses in several key districts like East Godavari, West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Guntur and Anantapur.

Even in party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s bastion Kadapa, the party lost out in four of the seven municipalities. The YSRC camp is in a gloom over the municipal poll results. However party leaders expressed confidence over the party’s performance in the general elections as rural voters are supporting them.

Though the YSRC lost to the TD in the municipal polls the party has won 40 per cent of the wards in municipalities and divisions in corporations.

The YSRC won around 926 wards in Seemandhra as against 1,366 wards by the TD. It has also won 124 divisions in corporations as against the 202 by the TD. When the number of votes polled in municipalities are analysed, a total of 33.57 lakh votes were polled in 93 municipalities, 13.89 lakh votes were  polled for the YSRC and 15.18 lakh were polled for the TD indicating a margin of 1.29 lakh more votes for Telugu Desam.

YSRC spokesperson Gattu Ramachandra Rao said, “Municipal poll results will not reflect in the general elections. The YSRC will form the government in the state. The results on May 16 will reveal it. We will see who becomes the chief minister, Y.S. Jagan or N. Chandrababu Naidu,”

In Rayalaseema it did relatively better. Except Kadapa and Nellore, the YSRC could not bag five other corporations. In Rayalaseema, Anantapur was the biggest failure.
In Telangana the party did badly. The YSRC could win only 11 wards in Telangana and one division in the corporation polls. It failed to win any any of the municipalities.
