Hyderabad: The government-run home for boys and girls in the city is in dire need of attention with many children requiring  medical care and special treatment. The Shishu Vihars in Yusufguda and Kacheguda do not have a permanent medical officer or adequate staff.

The existing staff cannot handle special children. A child, Krishna, with severe burns was rescued from Tandur and brought to the state home in Saidabad but was treated only after two days and with basic first aid.

“The situation of insufficient staff is appalling.  The doctor herself had a fracture and bandage in her hand. No senior officer was present when we came to see them. Differently abled children need special care from trained people. There is an urgent need to shift HIV positive,” said MD Raheemuddin, member, SCPCR.
