BJP does well in non-BJP states
BJP grabbed early leads in Assam, got significant votes in Bengal too

Guwahati: BJP is leading in nine of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, while the ruling Congress is ahead in two seats, the AIUDF in two and an Independent in one seat.
BJP is ahead in Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Koliabor, Lakhimpur, Mangaldoi, Tezpur, Nowgong and Silchar seats, while Congress is leading in Autonomous District (ST) and Gauhati, and AIUDF in Dhubri and Karimganj.
Two Union minister Paban Singh Ghatowar and Ranee Narah are trailing in Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur behind BJP candidates Rameshwar Teli and state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal, respectively.
In Barpeta, former AGP minister and party president Chandra Mohan Patowary, who joined BJP before the polls, is leading over Sirajuddin Ajmal (AIUDF).
In Jorhat, six-time sitting Congress MP and former Union minister Bijoy Krishna Handique is trailing behind BJP tea leader Kamakhya Prasad Tasa.
In key Kaliabor constituency, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi's son Gaurav is in third position behind BJP's Mrinal Kumar Saikia and former AGP MP Arun Kumar Sarma.
In Mangaldoi, sitting BJP MP and former party state unit president Ramen Deka is leading over former Congress MP Kirip Chaliha.
In Nowgong, sitting BJP MP and former state unit chief Rajen Gohain is leading over sitting Congress MLA Jonjonali Baruah.
In Silchar, former Union minister Kabindra Purkayastha is leading over former Union minister Santosh Mohan Dev's daughter Sushmita Dev of Congress.
