Patna: With the exit polls predicting the ruling JD(U)’s rout in Bihar, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar went into a huddle with his cabinet colleagues on Thursday afternoon, in an unscheduled cabinet meeting that sparked speculations about the JD(U) stalwart’s next moves and also witnessed tiffs among some ministers.

The cabinet meeting, convened just a day before the results of the Lok Sabha polls were to be announced, created a buzz in political circles also because it was held at Mr Kumar’s official residence of 1, Anne Marg, instead of the regular venue of the state secretariat.
In the face of triumphant BJP-led NDA, JD(U) leaders asserting that the days of the minority government of the party are numbered, the absence of five of the total 14 ministers at the meeting added to the suspense.

Mr Kumar and his senior cabinet colleagues reportedly put in place a tentative guideline for the party’s leaders on how and what to speak in public in the event of the exit-poll predictions coming true.
