New Delhi: An internal assessment by the Special Protection Group in association with the Central intelligence agencies has indicated that Narendra Modi, if he becomes Prime Minister, would have the highest threat perception of all PMs the elite force has protected since its inception in 1985.

Top intelligence sources said anticipating that Mr Modi could well become PM, the SPG and some other agencies had done a review of his threat perception almost every fortnight. The SPG is mandated to provide security to the PM, former PMs and their immediate families.

Mr Modi’s threat perception, the sources said, turned out “extremely high” in every review. The threat is primarily from terror outfits operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and the Kashmir Valley. The SPG has therefore already started working on a new security deployment plan should Mr Modi head the government after May 16.

The SPG will have to make key changes in the “Blue Book”, a detailed dossier on security deployment. Mr Modi will be guarded by a larger number of commandos.
