Hyderabad: Several Telangana student and employee JAC leaders who were in the forefront during Telangana agitation are still facing  police cases and were jailed for several months. Yet unfortunately, they have failed to garner the support of voters in polls.  These students played a crucial role in the formation of Telangana.

K. Shankaramma of the TRS, the mother of Telangana student Srikantha Chary, who set himself ablaze for the cause of Telangana in 2009, suffered defeat in Huzurnagar despite a strong TRS wave across the region.

Many student leaders failed to make a mark in the elections. Student leaders demanded that all the political parties allot them at least 20 per cent seats in recognition of the sacrifices made by them. All parties failed to do so due to political compulsions and several student leaders contested as independent candidates and lost.
