Vijayawada: Dr NTR University of Health Sciences may be developed as an integrated medical hub as it is centrally located and accessible to people from across Seemandhra.

It is said that as N. Chandrababu Naidu, the chief minister-designate is set to make his camp at Nagarjuna University campus, where he will stay three days every week, the directorate of medical education and super specialty hospitals are likely to come up here. According to highly placed sources, the NTR University will be developed as an integrated medical hub by introducing all branches of medical and health sector.

An official, on conditions of anonymity, said  that besides the super- speciality hospital, an Ayurvedic college and Homoeopathy college may also be  developed.

He said the demand for a super-speciality hospital was pending for the past one decade. In addition there was no full-fledged Ayurvedic hospital, Homoeopathy hospital or Unani hospital in the region.

According to the health university officials, land will not be a problem as it is available near the university which has the  Government General Hospital and Sidhartha College in its vicinity.

If not Vijayawada, the directorate of medical education would come up at Guntur.
It may be recalled that the state government had allotted nearly 200 acres of land to the health university near Mangalagiri to develop an academic campus.

But the matter has been lying pending for several years
