3-way fight helped TRS: Dattatreya
Votes were split between Congress, TRS, BJP-TD combine
New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya on Wednesday attributed the TRS’ resounding victory in Telangana region to the three-way split in votes and stressed that his party increased its vote share significantly due to the Modi wave. “The TRS won because of the three-way split in votes. Votes were split between the Congress, the TRS and the BJP-TD alliance. Otherwise, the BJP combine would have swept the polls in Telangana as well,” the former Union minister told reporters.
Mr Dattatreya, who won the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, said though the TRS gained in terms of seats, the BJP’s vote share shot up in Telangana. He also noted that the BJP has secured over two lakh votes in few constituencies and crossed the one-lakh mark in the other segments in contested.
“For example, if we take the case of Karimnagar, our party polled over two lakh votes. In other constituencies we got more than one lakh votes. So our vote share actually went up. People did vote for BJP,” he said.
Mr Dattatreya refused to comment on whether he would be part of Mr Modi’s government.
