Movie review 'Kochadaiiyaan': Tech Rajini comes out on top
Looks like director Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin has the last laugh after all
Director: Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin
Cast: Rajinikanth, Deepika Padukone, Shobana, Jackie Shroff
Rating: 3.5 stars
Is there no domain that the Superstar can't conquer? Yes, admittedly we all had our doubts about whether this complicated 'motion capture photo-realistic 3D animated technology' would actually work, but looks like it does. Once you get used to the format, Rajinikanth's magic comes through and the film is actually quite enjoyable.
The story has been adapted from a children's bed-time tale about two rival kings (Nasser and Jackie Shroff) and a romance between Nasser's valiant general played by Rajinikanth who falls in love with the princess- Deepika Padukone (Jackie's daughter).
Scriptwriter K.S. Ravikumar has done the story justice with enough twists and turns to hold one's attention and AR Rahman too delivers with a quite a vibrant, commercial score. Fans in Tamil Nadu were thrilled when yesteryear actor Nagesh came to life in an animated avatar.
Unsurprisingly, the brand name ‘Rajini’ has proved for the umpteenth time that his face value alone could carry a movie on his shoulders. 'Kochadaiiyaan' has embraced technology in the best possible way, not to forget this being the very first attempt. Looks like director Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin has the last laugh after all!
