Chandigarh: In a yet another reminder of medieval practices still prevalent in our society, a young couple Manoj Kumar (21) and Kiran (19) were murdered a suspected case of honour killing.
Both Manoj and Kiran were residents of Bhaini Kalan village near Karnal in Haryana. It is socially unacceptable to marry in the same village in the hinterlands of Haryana.
It is learnt that the couple was first brutally murdered and then clandestinely cremated by their families. The families of both boy and girl are charged with murder.
According to police Manoj and Kiran belonged to the same community and were residents of the same village. Manoj, who was already married, had an affair with Kiran.
They were planning to get married, but their parents were against it. The incident came to light when somebody informed the Tarori police about the murders and cremation of Manoj and Kiran.
About two years ago Manoj’s parents reportedly got him married to another girl but he continued his relationship with Kiran. However, three days ago couple allegedly fled from their homes. Their parents traced them in Kurukshetra and brought them back.
