Hyderabad bus frequency map to the rescue of travellers
The map has lines which indicates the frequency of the buses
Hyderabad: To make commuting on buses an easy task and also to encourage the use of the public transport system, Harsha Devulapalli, a researcher at the Hyderabad Urban Labs, has come up with a map connecting more than 2,417 bus stops in Hyderabad that have buses in less than 10-minute intervals.
“The APSRTC has every bus route printed on its brochure, but the only hassle is the time duration. Sometimes people don’t know how to plan their travel, and I, like all of them, would not want to wait for more than 10-15 minutes. So, to make it easier for me or everyone else, I made a list of bus routes with 0-to-10 and 10-to-20-minute service frequencies,” Mr Devulapalli said.
The map has red lines, indicating bus routes with a peak frequency of less than 10 minutes and non-peak frequency of 10-20 minutes and blue lines with peak frequency of 10-20 minutes and non-peak frequency of 20-30 minutes.
“Areas such as Lakdikapul, Himayatnagar, Kacheguda, Nallakunta and Musheerabad have high frequency routes and public transport is a viable option here,” said Mr Devulapalli.
He mentioned that while the old MCH limits had good bus networks, now, within GHMC limits, areas like Banjara and Jubilee Hills have average networks, whereas areas beyond Hitec City have poor frequency of buses.
“Transit is very important and in these areas, people find solace in shared-autorickshaws. So, I have also included dark blue lines about shared-auto routes that thrive in areas with sporadic bus services. Many areas like Ziaguda, Karwan and parts of Mehdipatnam do not have any bus network and these areas also have a shared auto network,” he said.
