Mumbai: Rohit Roy, who was recently seen as the host of Mallika Sherawat’s reality show Mere Khayalon Ki Mallika, is back on the small screen, with the weekend show Encounter. He will essay the role of a police officer Milind Mandlik.

Rohit says, “The role of a cop is quite a shift from my roles in films like Shootout At Lokhandwala, were I played a bhai. To get into the character, I spoke to a few policemen. It has turned out well.”

The actor is clearly in a mood to experiment these days. From hosting and participating in reality shows to directing films, Rohit has been trying out new things.

“I have always wanted to do that. I was tired of playing chocolate boy roles, although I can no longer call myself a boy,” he says with a chuckle. He adds, “I’m working on my next film as a director and that’s something I’m excited about. But acting will always remain my first love.”

Rohit admits that he hasn’t been taking up much work of late and prefers spending more time with family.

He says, “My daughter is 11 years old now and I want to watch her grow and spend time with her. I don’t want to be one of those actors who is shooting all the time and suddenly realises one day that your child has grown up, and the time you could have spent together is gone.”

Rohit’s wife, Manasi Joshi Roy who is also an actor, has also been missing from TV.

He says,“Manasi is looking at getting back to work. She should make a comeback soon. Mansi too has been busy with our daughter and looking after the house. Now that our daughter has grown up, it’s the right time to make a comeback and we have been regularly discussing it.”
