Seven dead in drive-by shooting in California
The local police officials had detained two suspects after the gunfire
California: Authorities in California say seven people are dead and several others were wounded in drive-by shootings in the Santa Barbara area.
Santa Barbara County sheriff's spokeswoman Kelly Hoover tells a local newschannel that two suspects have been detained after the gunfire on last night near a student community next to the University of California-Santa Barbara's campus.
The circumstances surrounding the shootings in the community of Isla Vista were not immediately clear, but the station says police cordoned off four crime scenes, including one near a delicatessen and another near a convenience store.
The shooting prompted officials and UC Santa Barbara to issue alerts urging people to stay indoors.
Isla Vista is known for parties, including one last month that turned into a violent blowout.
