Rajinikanth loses hold on Telugu audience?
Why Rajinikanth’s Vikramasimha received poor openings in the state?
The Rajinikanth-Deepika Padukone starrer Kochadaiiyaan, released in Telugu as Vikramasimha, hasn’t generated the heat usually associated with a Rajinikanth film, despite it being the first motion capture 3D computer animated film to be made in India. Analysing the reasons for its failure, experts say, the audience is ignorant about the new technology, they see this film as just another ordinary animation film — so they aren’t interested.
The storyline too seems to be a bit confusing. Children actually like technology driven films, but they can’t understand the story of Vikramasimha and are confused whether Rajinikanth is helping the bad guys or the good guys. Like in a regular film, the director has inserted a few songs, but the song picturised on Deepika Padukone tests the audience’s patience.
The dubbing is very poor and out of sync with the Telugu dialogues. Even though you can identify the actors, you can’t see a single expression on their face, and that is the major drawback. There are a few good points too. The background music is good. Rajinikanth’s punch dialogues are there; and Rajini fans will enjoy the action scenes. According to the distributors, the film didn’t get the opening a Rajinikanth film usually commands. The reasons they cite are: lack of pre-release publicity, and the mistaken notion of it being an animation film, so they ignored it.
