Hyderabad:  The GHMC has sanctioned Rs 21 crore for the desilting of nalas and Rs 5 crore to check water stagnation. Nearly 200 works have been sanctioned for checking water stagnation and patch works, of which 109 were proposed by the traffic police and 88 identified by the GHMC.

“Critical works like water-logging on roads that belong to the Road and Building department and National Highways are being taken up on priority. Joint inspections will be held by the R&B, police and GHMC’s engineering wing for better coordination. Engineering officials have been directed to ensure that the drains are cleared before the monsoons. Eighteen central emergency teams have been organised for all the five zones and they will be under the direct control of the zonal commissioner. The chief engineer has been asked to increase teams from 41 to 60 to check incidents during the rains,” GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said.

During a joint meeting on Saturday, officials from the Hyderabad traffic department asked GHMC to keep traffic officials informed about the schedule of work for better coordination.

Avinash Mohanthy, deputy commissioner traffic (Cyberabad), complained, “The AP Transco department had earlier dug up roads and filled them with mud. These roads have to be black topped immediately. The roads are damaged due to Metro works and water is stagnating at many points causing severe traffic problems.”
