UK researchers developed a mid-air display of sight and smell
Researchers developed a device, SensaBubble that projects messages mid-air
Mumbai: UK based computer scientists have developed a device, SensaBubble that projects messages or pictures on scented bubbles. SensaBubble uses a concept called 'chrono-sensory experiences' to deliver messages its creators say; this could be adapted for advertising, gaming, education, or even email communication.
SensaBubble creates scented bubbles with artificial fog made of water and glycerine, onto which images and texts can be displayed. These bubble are sensed and detected by a projector attached to it, that projects on it the message to be carried.
The visual display is lost after the bubble bursts, but a lingering fragrance appropriate to the tone of the message is left behind. So even if you miss the notification, when you smell the scent of the message you automatically know whom you received it from.
According to Dr. Subramaniam, this could be a great way of advertising because of its aesthetics and its ability to carry fragrance that would attract customers.
The device is still at the prototype stage, but the researchers are eager to bring SensaBubble in the market for commercialisation.
