New Delhi: With Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi taking the oath of office and secrecy on Monday, a whole new era is all set to begin in New Delhi’s corridors of power, and across the country, after an entire decade.

Leading the BJP to an astounding victory in the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Modi will be sworn in as India’s 15th Prime Minister on Monday evening by President Pranab Mukherjee in the forecourt of the majestic Rashtrapati Bhavan. In a first, the grand ceremony will be attended by several Saarc heads of state and government, among other dignitaries.

The government led by Mr Modi, who is known for his decisiveness and governance skills, will be the first in the past three decades to come to power with an absolute majority on its own in the Lok Sabha.

It will face high expectations, and have to meet the demands of an aspiring India that has voted the BJP to power.

Having pitched the development agenda in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls, Mr Narendra Modi’s government will need to deliver on several fronts.

Over 4,000 invitees are scheduled to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister at 6 pm on Monday.
