Mumbai: Hampered by back injury, Chris Gayle had a silent tournament for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in this edition of the IPL. His ordinary show by the standards he set in the last two seasons was one of the main reasons why RCB finished seventh this season.

The former West Indies skipper is set to play his hundredth Test in Jamaica against New Zealand on June 8 and he is looking forward to his landmark keeping the IPL disappointment behind him.

“Last two years we (RCB) didn’t make it to final. This year we wanted badly to be in the final. We made changes in the team but it didn’t happen. We all are disappointed and hurt. We didn’t click but life goes on,” he said at the sidelines of an event.

Gayle felt they will bounce back next year. “Still we will keep pushing next year though it is far away. We will focus when we come again together play better cricket and try perform as a team,” he added.

The Jamaican admitted he has to sort out injury problem before the special moment of playing his 100th Test. “It will mean a lot to me. It took me 13-14 years with West Indies to actually to get this stage. I was supposed to get to this milestone a long time ago but these things happen. I suffered injuries at crucial times,” he said.

“I still have back spasms and I am trying to sort it out to get fully fit for that special occasion,” he said.

I am flying to Germany tonight to resolve my disc problem fully. It will be big and big Test and big occasion from me and people at back home. It is going to be fantastic environment in Jamaica,” he added.

Dwelling again on the poor season, Gayle said they were inconsistent.

“Both our batting was bowling was inconsistent at times. We needed consistency from both sides. We won games and then lost next which made things difficult for us. Few games slipped from us and we couldn’t comeback strongly at turning points,” he said.

Gayle felt RCB skipper Virat Kohli is the the man to lead India in future.
