Patiala: India's top boxer Dinesh Kumar has sustained injuries when the vehicle he was travelling in was involved in a collision with a truck near Samana, police said on Monday.

After the accident, which occurred near here on Sunday, the boxer was admitted to a private hospital here. Kumar, a member of Indian boxing team which is all set to go to Germany next month, was returning to Patiala from his residence in Bhiwani in Haryana to attend a camp at the NIS here. The international boxer was also selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow in July.

Asked about the mishap, which has left the boxer injured, Indian team's coach G S Sandhu, told PTI that "the news has come as a big shock to us. We hope that he gets well soon." Kumar has received two fractures in his right arm, besides sustaining other injuries.

Asked if Kumar's participation in forthcoming events was uncertain now, Sandhu said that at this point of time he cannot say anything. "It is for the doctors to take a call. We know that time is less (for his recovery on time)," he said. Kumar was to take part in the 91kg category.
