Kochi: Shruthi Ramakrishnan is having a great time in the South Indian film industries with three simultaneous projects in her hands and one in the pipeline. After the release of her third film in Malayalam, One by Two, the actress is now working on two Tamil projects and a Kannada film.

“In one Tamil project I am paired opposite Nakul. The project is a typical mass entertainer. The second Tamil project is directed by Balaji sir and is a comedy. However, the Kannada project is more interesting because it offers me a different role. It explores the way women are perceived in the industry and I play a character that imitates everything the hero does. So that was a unique experience,” she says.

Talking about the experience of working in three different industries she says, “Everybody in the South Indian film industries is well connected. All the directors and project managers in Malayalam, Tamil or Kannada are familiar with the people and the work of each of these industries.”

“The only major difference is that the Kannada industry is now in a phase where a lot of modern themes are being experimented, but in Tamil and Malayalam films, no matter what the theme a certain level of nativity is always present. Apart from that, language is the only difference,” says Shruthi.

Shruthi says the Malayalam industry is a great place to work and that is why she is waiting for the right projects.

“After Best Actor, I got a lot of good reviews for my work. So I want to maintain the good work. When you see films like Kazhcha and Beautiful, you want  to do films like that. So for me, unless I find a director I trust, who I think can mould me into the character, I won’t sign a project. Moreover, I’m looking for projects that allow me to play characters my own age. Essaying roles closer to my own age  is more convincing than playing a younger or older character,” says Shruthi.

Shruthi is a huge fan of Prithviraj. “When I was making my debut in Mollywood, I was not very familiar with Malayalam films. So the first Malayalam film I ever saw was Robinhood and I was floored by Prithviraj! To me he is like Suriya in Tamil and Punith Rajkumar in Kannada. They are actors who work really hard and devote everything to their projects and it is clearly visible on screen as well. I hope I get to do good roles with all three of them,” she says.
