MHA tells MEA to consult it on security matter
The MHA also told the MEA that they must consult its agencies
New Delhi: Reflective of turf war, the Home Ministry has objected to the External Affairs Ministry's practice of dealing with security agencies directly to discuss overseas security matters and asked the later to take it on board prior to such discussions.
In a communication, the Home Ministry said there have been instances in the recent past where the selection of the agencies under the administration of MHA to represent in the
meetings and discussions concerning security matters abroad under the agenceis of MEA has been made by MEA without consulting MHA.
"In a few cases, nominations have also been invited from selected agencies directly. This has not offered any opportunity to this Ministry to convey its views on the matter," the Home Ministry letter to the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The Home Ministry said the selection of the concerned organisations/agencies to be represented in the discussion meetings concerning security matters where the participation
of MHA and its agencies is considered necessary, should be done by MEA in consultation with MHA.
The Home Ministry also told the Ministry of External Affairs that if such a discussion is necessary, MEA should consult with the concerned administrative divisions of MHA detailing broad areas of discussion, tentative composition indicating participation of other Departments/ Ministries if any.
