KCR gives up Medak Lok Sabha seat
Since KCR is all set to become CM, he resigned from Medak LS seat
Hyderabad: TRS president and Chief Minister-in-waiting K. Chandrasekhar Rao resigned his Medak Lok Sabha seat on Monday. Mr Rao submitted his resignation letter to Lok Sabha Secretary General in New Delhi and informed him about his decision.
The resignation letter to the Lok Sabha Secretary General P. Sreedharan was sent through TRS secretary general K. Kesava Rao, party MP B. Vinod Kumar and others.
Mr Rao contested from Medak Lok Sabha and Gawel Assembly constituencies and won both the seats.
While he won the Medak LS seat by a record margin of 3.97 lakh votes against his nearest Congress rival Shravan Kumar Reddy, Mr Rao defeated Telugu Desam’s V. Pratap Reddy in Gajwel Assembly constituency by a margin of 19,218 votes.
Since the TRS chief is all set to become the Chief Minster, he has decided to resign from the Medak Lok Sabha seat and retain the Gajwel Assembly seat.
According to rules, he has to retain one seat.
“We have handed over KCR’s resignation letter to the Lok Sabha Secretary General. It is a mere formality of accepting it.” Mr Vinod Kumar told this newspaper.
As the bypolls are inevitable, all eyes are now on the next candidate. There are several aspirants for the Medak Lok Sabha ticket but the name of Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of Dubbak, a party leader stands out.
Mr Prabhakar Reddy sought Dubbak Assembly ticket, but it was given to Ramalinga Reddy, who won it.
The TRS chief had reportedly promised Mr Prabhakar Reddy a Lok Sabha ticket or accommodate him in a suitable place.
Other aspirants include Narsa Reddy, who contested against Mr Rao in Gajwel on the Congress ticket and lost, R. Sathyanarayana, ex-MLC Sangareddy, Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, who contested and lost the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat, Dr K.V. Ramana Chary, retired IAS and TRS politburo member are among the others.
