Free IIT Bombay computer programming course available online
IIT Bombay launched its first set of courses on Massive Open Online Courses platform
Mumbai: IIT Bombay has launched the first set of its courses on the MOOC (Massive Open Online Courses) platform of leading non-profit online education provider, edX. The courses available are: Introduction to Computer Programming Part 1 & Part 2, and Thermodynamics.
"The Introduction to Programming Part 1" is a 6-week course, which starts on July 29 2014 and corresponds to the first half of the Computer Programming course CS101 at IIT Bombay. In this part, basic concepts of computer programming are introduced starting with the notion of an algorithm. This 6-week course provides students with a foundation in computer programming.
The Part 2 course is also of 6-week duration and builds on the basic foundation in computer programming; discusses structures, pointers, and file management; and ends with an introduction to Object Oriented Programming. It starts on September 23 2014.
Students, who register for these courses, will have the option to either access to all course material, tests, and online discussion forum for free -- or seek a Verified Certificate of Achievement for about Rs. 1,500 ($25). Details here
