Vijayawada: Members of the Polavaram Sadhana Samiti and leaders of several farmers’ associations demanded the merger of the entire Bhadrachalam division in the Andhra region to end the dispute between the two states over the Polavaram project.

The argument being that rehabilitation would be made easier with the merger. Welcoming the ordinance on the Polavaram project, the Rythu Karyacharana Samiti leaders stressed on the need for the merger of Bhadrachalam division with AP.

Speaking at a meet on Thursday, organised by AP Jalayagna Sadhana Samiti president Kolanukonda Shivaji, Andhra Rythu Karyacharana Samiti and Polavaram Project Sadhana Samiti official spokesman M.V. Surylanarayana Raju said there was no logic to the argument of TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to reduce the height of the Polavaram project.

If that happened, several tail end districts, including Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam, would not get  Godavari water. The Polavaram Sadhana Samiti members said that 6,000 tmc of water from the Godavari  was going waste every year.
