Sulabh to build toilets in all homes in Badaun
Moved by the case in Badaun, Sulabh to build toilet in every house in the village
Lucknow: Moved by the rape and murder of two sisters in Katra village in Badaun district, Sulabh International, a pioneer in the field of low-cost sanitation, has announced that it will build a toilet in every house in the village.
The very fact that the two Dalit sisters were raped, murdered and hanged from a tree when they went to attend the call of nature in the open has caught the attention of Sulabh founder Bindeshwar Pathak, who said the NGO will ensure toilet for each family in this particular village at the earliest.
In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mr Pathak said that a team of sanitation workers and engineers from his organization will visit the village to start toilet construction work Monday.
“We are just setting an example by adopting this village as the issue of toilet was the main reason behind both the deaths,” he said.
The two minor girls were forcibly taken away by four men while on their way to the public toilet, gangraped, strangulated and then hung by a mango tree in the village in Badaun district.
Dr Pathak has also urged top business houses to adopt at least one village to end the practice of open defecation. Hailing PM Mr Modi for coining the slogan ‘toilet first, temple later,’ Dr Pathak has expressed his wish to work with the government for making available toilet in every household.
